Living the resurrected life
Going through the account of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ again this Easter period I was touched by the account in Mark 16 and John 20, particularly Mark 16: 7 where it says “But go, tell his disciples and Peter, He goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you” (RV)
Touched because the angel specifically mentioned Peter who denied Jesus Christ on the night he was arrested. Peter blew it by denying Jesus as was predicted, but that the angel would single him out from the other disciples to be informed of Christ resurrection is mind blowing.
Touched because though the disciples were not there at the tomb that morning to receive their master as He had promised to rise after third day; yet He was going to meet with them even Peter who denied him openly.
Touched because John 20:2-9 tells us that Mary Magdalene found the disciples together in one place and the first person she contacted was Simon Peter, the one who would put his mouth into use before engaging his brain; the one who rejected Jesus Christ. They dispersed at the master’s arrest, but united after his death by faith in Him that was ridiculed, beaten and crucified.
Touched because though “the other disciples outran Peter and reached the tomb first”; But it was Peter who when he “arrived and went into the tomb” before the other discipleship dare to go in. (John 20:4-8)
Touched because though “until then they still hadn't understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead.” Yet they came looking for him, seeking to show their love and their commitment even in his death.
After carefully considering these scenes, I will like to suggest:
That just as Jesus died and resurrected that as believers we can live and enjoy a resurrected life through faith in Christ. The resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is the hope God offers us during bad times, a light in which we can believe though still in the darkness.
That Christ death and resurrection is the demonstration of the uniqueness of our faith and God's unfailing ability to raise anything and anyone from the depths.
That peter was able to stand up from his fall and bounced back into action means that we can do the same no matter how deep we have fallen or overtaken with fault.
Finally it shows that we can build on God’s unfailing word. Jesus had told Peter “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers." (Luke22:31-32). These words sustained Peter in the darkest moment of his walk with the master. With the word of God deeply rooted in our hearts, we can also live the resurrected life like Peter did.
Death in any forms; is it spiritual, physical, the loss of a job, loss of close relations, even loss of a dream is never the end – resurrection is. Though death and sorrow stand nearby; resurrection equally waits at the edges of our lives.
We can live the resurrected life; a life of unwillingness to settle for death in any of its forms, unwillingness to give up hope, unwillingness to be ground by grief when God extends His love and mercy, lifestyle of always turning our eyes towards God daily to bring life to every dead thing in our lives. Because Jesus Intends victory for us when He died in our place that we might have life and life to the fullest
Have a wonderful resurrected Life in God
