He walks with us
Text: Luke 24:13-28
As they walked along they were talking about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things, Jesus Himself suddenly came and began walking with them. But God kept them from recognizing Him”. Luke 24:14-16As believers, we are sometimes faced with challenges that we find difficult to explain. It gets worse when all that we hope for as believers comes under attack. It does not happen because we have committed any sin, neither is it because the devil is having a go at us. The are the challenges of life. Bad things happen to good people. Life is full of ups and downs. Sometime we are up there happily serving and having sweet fellowship with the trinity and with the church. At other times, it will appear like the whole world is against us, and it feels like we are alone, disillusioned, and utterly confused not knowing who to turn to. The awesomeness of God, His unfailing love will cease to exist in our imaginations.
Such was the case with these disciples. The past forty two months were wonderful periods in their lives, being with the Lord Jesus Christ; witnessing the display of his power and glory. But suddenly, the events of the last three days; the arrest of their Lord and master, the unfair trials by cruel men, the crucifixion, the burial, and the news that morning that his body was missing appeared to have cast doubts on their faith, so much so that all they could do was just to walk away; confused, and disillusioned. But right there on their way Jesus joined them, but God had kept them from recognising Him. Sometimes we get so wrapped up by circumstance that we even will fail to recognise that God lives in us. You are not alone, the lord is walking with us. God plus one is always a majority.
Jesus walks with us even:
1. When we walk away from Him: Jesus walks with us even when have made up our minds to walk away from Him and are heading towards the wrong directions. He does not give up on us; He will ever walk and be with us even when we don’t wish to walk with Him.
2. When we choose to talk to ourselves: Though we may not be talking with Him, and we have decided to tell our problems to friends instead of Him, when suddenly all of God’s word and promises suddenly disappear from our minds, when our source of comfort become our friends instead of Him. V.15
3. When we fail to recognise Him: Even if we fail to recognise Him because of the circumstance we found ourselves. Yet Jesus still walks with us. V.16
4. When we are downcast: Jesus still walk with us even when feel downcast; angry, miserable. Whenever we in moods like these, we tend to blame God, the church and even sometimes ourselves. Yet Jesus still walks with us.
5. When we give up hope: Even we have given up all hope; they said “We had hoped he was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel” (v.21). Yet Jesus will not give up on us, He still walks with us.
6. When we become cynical, vv.22-23: When we cynical and contemptuous of all that we once believe and try to sound like we were compelled to believe them, even at that Jesus still walks with us.
Why will Jesus still walk with us despite all our short comings? He will always walk with us because God had said: “for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” Deut.31:6. No matter how difficult the situation might appear, Jesus will dare to come into it; for Christ alone is a friend who walks in when the World has walked out on us. Jesus said: “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world." John 16:33. He knows all our faults and yet still loves to walk with us. Apostle Paul says “God commended His love toward us, in that while we yet sinners, Jesus died for us” Rom.5:8
Jesus is a true friend, who truly knows all our weaknesses, yet still loves, believes in us, and still like to walk with us. He is so lovingly concern with us. He believes that it is not over with us and that the best is yet to come from us. A man puts it this way: “Real friend are those who, when you have made a fool of yourself, don’t feel you have done a permanent job”
No matter where you find yourself, Jesus lives and would like to walk with you. Don’t look too far He is right there with you.
God Bless you.
